Fairfax County, Virginia
Fairfax County, officially Fairfax County, is located in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. Fairfax County, a part of Northern Virginia, borders the city of Alexandria and Arlington County and is part of the suburbs of Washington, D.C. Therefore, the county is predominantly suburban in character, with some urban and rural areas.
As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,081,726. In 2019, it was estimated at 1,147,532, making it the most populous jurisdiction in the Commonwealth, with about 13% of Virginia’s population. The county is also the most populous jurisdiction in the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area, with approximately 20% of the MSA population, as well as the Washington-Baltimore-Arlington metropolitan area, DC-MD. – VA-WV-PA Combined statistical area, containing approximately 13% of the CSA population. The county seat is Fairfax, although the city of Fairfax is not part of Fairfax County, as it is an independent city under Virginia law.
Fairfax was the first county in the US to achieve a six-figure median household income and has the second highest median household income of any county-level local jurisdiction in the United States, after neighboring Loudoun County.
The county is home to the headquarters of intelligence agencies such as the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, and the Office of National Reconnaissance, as well as the National Counterterrorism Center and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. The county is also home to seven Fortune 500 companies, including three with addresses in Falls Church; although Falls Church is its own independent congregation.
Northern Virginia (NOVA)
Northern Virginia, known locally as NOVA or NoVA, includes several independent counties and cities in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. It is a sprawling region that stretches west and south from Washington, D.C. With an estimated 3,159,639 residents in 2019 (37.02 percent of Virginia’s total population), it is the most populous region in Virginia and the Washington metropolitan area.
Communities in the region make up the Virginia portion of the Washington metropolitan area and the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. Northern Virginia has significantly more jobs than Washington or the Maryland portion of its suburbs, and it is Virginia’s highest-income region, with some of the highest-income counties in the nation.
Northern Virginia’s transportation infrastructure includes major Ronald Reagan Washington National and Washington Dulles International airports, various lines of the Washington Metro subway system, the Virginia Railway Express commuter rail system, bus services, shared bikes, and lanes. and bike paths, and an extensive network of Motorways and Highways.
Notable features of the region include the Pentagon and the Central Intelligence Agency, and the many companies that serve them and the US federal government. Area attractions include several Civil War and Colonial monuments and sites, such as Mount Vernon and Arlington National Cemetery.
