Calvert County is part of the southern region of Maryland. The county has one of the highest median household incomes in the United States.
Southern Maryland (SOMD)
Popularly used southern Maryland consists of the southernmost counties in the state on the “west shore” of the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. This region includes all of Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary counties, and sometimes the southern parts of Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties. Although the southernmost counties in the state are actually on the Delmarva Peninsula, they are not included in most definitions of “southern Maryland.”
