Butler County (county code BU) is a county in the southern part of the US state of Kansas and is the largest county in the state by area. In the 2010 census, the provincial population was 65,880. The provincial capital and the most populated city is El Dorado.
Augusta, Kansas
Augusta is a city in Butler County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city’s population was 9,274.
In 2010, the Keystone-Cushing (Phase II) pipeline was laid about 2.5 miles west of Augusta, north to south through Butler County, with much controversy over tax breaks and environmental issues (if ever leak occurs).
Now home to the Augusta Arts Council, the Augusta Historic Theater is a classic example of Art Deco. Augusta is also home to the Kansas Museum of Military History (formerly Augusta Air Museum). The Augusta Historical Museum and the C.N. James Log Cabin are on the National Register of Historic Places. Henry’s Sculpture Hill is also outside the city limits. Augusta offers an airport called Augusta Municipal Airport.
